So this is my first blog post.
Well, technically, it's not. I used to do a blog when I was in high school. Almost six years ago now. It wasn't actually a blog, though. It was through Myspace. I just used their posting topics as a blog. I'd post basically anything that was on my mind at the time. Most of it turned out to be really (bad) sappy poems I wrote for my girlfriend at the time. Most of it was so bad that, a few years after I stopped using Myspace, I went through and deleted almost all of them just in case someone later on stumbled upon them. So I guess technically, this is still my first blog post. Making this entire paragraph essentially a waste of time. Oh well.
What will this blog be about? I don't know. Probably films. Right now I'm in the middle of a movie phase of my life. For example, in 2010 I watched 375 films that I had never seen before. That's just ridiculous. I'll admit it. A good chunk of those weren't even watched for enjoyment. After a certain point of this current obsession, I felt a literal obligation to watch certain films, even if their premises sounded fluffy or the names were completely foreign to me. One example of this is a film from 2009 titled The Truth About Average Guys, directed by and starring Jason Schaver and Ken Gayton. Ever heard of them or the film? Neither has Wikipedia. However, the display image on Netflix showed in very small writing that the movie had at least been nominated for some awards at some awards ceremonies (the writing was too small to figure out which ones), so I watched it. Suffice it to say that the quality of basically everything in the film was sub-par. Having said that, most of the films I watch are out of either sincere anticipation or at least mild curiosity, and I like to at least make an attempt to pass along my thoughts about great movies to those who may be interested. So maybe I'll write about films.
Maybe not, though. Maybe I'll just write about myself. Recently I recalled a memory of the first time I really decided that I wanted to do some type of writing for my career. Not that I'm currently writing as a career or anything. Anyway. Sometime in the middle of elementary school, I was either given a typewriter or my parents bought me one (it was pretty long ago and I have a terrible memory, give me a break) and I started the first of many attempts to make my own magazines and newspapers. That seems a little random to write an entire blog about, though. So maybe not myself either.
Actually, I only made this blog so that I would have an excuse to actually start writing something. I've been trying to write a couple of short screenplays but can't find the motivation to begin. I also can't figure out how to begin them. Whatever. I'll get on it soon enough.
In the meantime, check out this song from the soundtrack to what will probably be this year's Best Picture winner, The Social Network:
